Toy shopping is quite a serious thing, and it does matter which toy you allow your kids to play with. For example, if you have preschoolers, then getting the something like the soccer goals for kids from Step2 Direct or from any other reputable toy store, is the best deal. Kids of that age will not be satisfied with just any colorful toys, they like to be active and play with other kids.
Babies, under the age of 1
This might sound funny to some, but you, as a parent, are your baby’s favorite toy. Since your baby is not able to see properly yet, he/she can only recognize moving shadows and colors, which is why interaction with your infant, allowing him/her to hear your voice is the best option. Of course, they also like rattles, mobiles, soft stuffed animals, and basically anything that they can put in their mouth.
The simplest colorful toys are sometimes the best option for babies or toddlers
However, there are a couple of things you need to avoid. For example, toys that are over 12 inches long, small objects that could be swallowed, toys with any small parts, stuffed animals that are not sewed properly, sharp-edged toys, as well as toys that are made with lead-based paint.
Toddlers, from 1-3 years old
At this age, your kids are starting to explore everything around the house, and they have become clumsier than ever. This is why you should get them toys such as modeling clay, blocks, softballs, picture books, musical toys, shape sorters, stacking rings, simple puzzles and so on.
Of course, there are a couple of things you need to avoid. Small objects that could easily be swallowed, stuffed animals that are not sewn completely, toys that are made from toxic paint, or toys that have a sharp edge are not good for your toddler. As you can see, the toy you avoid for your toddler, you also avoid for your infant.
Preschoolers, 4-6 years old
Now, this is where you can get as creative as you want. Kids at this age love to explore and find their own hobbies; for example, if your kids love to draw, you should explore the best purchase kids easel at Step2 Direct or any other kid’s toy store! Preschoolers love to be creative, and that tends to be shown through their art.
Preschoolers love to be active and play with other children
On the other hand, kids at this age love to play basic board games (do not introduce anything strategic yet), Dress-up games, books, basic musical instruments, puzzles, outdoor toys, tricycles and bicycles, wooden train sets, pull-on toys and many outdoor toys in general. This all depends on your children, because everyone is different!
There are also a couple of toys that you should avoid; for example, electrical toys, sharp-edged objects that could be dangerous for them (scissors), remote control toys (only used with supervision), costume and clothing items that are quite a tripping hazards, toys made with lead-based paint and mini-bikes.
Every age-group has the appropriate and dangerous toys that they could have, and you need to know this before you just randomly go and buy them a toy. It is okay for you to listen to what your kids want to play with, but it is also okay for you to sometimes say ‘No.’ If you go and blindly buy any toy they want, they will never get a sense of money-spending which is very important.
